A FAREWELL TO MY FATHER

A time to remember!

I started to remember and to identify clearly my father’s face since I was a little child. When I was four or five years old, approximately, I began to have consciousness about him and his interesting jobs like a marine and all his adventures in the big Mexican ships. Different memories come to my mind about his specific characteristics, his strength and value in every activity that he did, his perspective to see the world through his small black eyes. He taught and gave me many strategies and advice to face life and success in a positive and humble way.

He always told me things such as be an honest person, a mature man, struggle for your wishes, and love your profession overall. He said these wise words before his death: “A man is greater by his ideas rather than his size and money; never give up when you have personal and professional issues, love your friends, your family,  your parents, and your children; being always a model for them”. 

We used to spend long hours talking and sharing different opinions or personal points of view about complicated topics such as love, general culture, and even politics, but his true passion was the boxing fights that caught his whole attention. He spent Saturdays nights watching the big events on television and taking advantage of the advertisements to tell me several life stories about the famous and recognized fighters from Mexico and other countries.

Father, I want to tell you that I think of you every day. I still remember and miss you, but I save your most appreciated legacy inside myself, your ideas that caused me a revolution and invited me to think and reflect on them. You ever told me “the worst poverty is the poverty of ideas, study, read, write and reflect every day”, these have been the biggest treasures in the world. If you apply these actions to your life, you will be a free man and consequently very happy.

It has just passed a few months since you left...
