What is the biggest misconception about Latin American People?

You can differ from my opinion and argue which one you think is the biggest misconception.

As far as I'm concerned, I think that the American people think that all Latinos have a contagious disease.

I am not religious, but I was raised in a Catholic family, since children taught us to visit the church every Sunday, and now as an adult I continue doing it.

It happens the first time I visited a church in the United States was in the Bronx, New York, and at the time of giving us peace, I as a Latino finally, was hugging a lady, and she raised both her hands and put her in front of mine and told me that with shaking hands and told me "It is enough," I did so, but I did not want to stay with the doubt and at the end of the Mass I approached her and asked her what is the reason why she did not hug me and other people if? She replied: "I can't lie in the house of the Lord (the church) so when Latin people enter the country they spread their illness to the United States people, period".

The truth is that I stayed shocked about his way of seeing Latinos, in the same way, I addressed the priest and asked him the same question, to which he answered: “there are several reasons, but we as Brothers, we have to understand that not all people act and think the same as we do.”

I think that the priest left me with more doubts than answers since he didn't tell me what are those several reasons.

In retrospect, I could remember that when I entered the country, they asked me several questions about whether I had recently had a fever, or if I had visited Africa, and some other countries, I don't know if these questions are asked of all people regardless of the country where they come from or it's only for Latinos.

What I do not want to think that all the people of the United States are like the lady and the priest, however, my experiences living here make me think that it is a popular mistake about the people of Latin America.
